October 22nd-28th

(10/22) I scored a walk this morning with Sarah.  My car is in the shop, so the littles and I got to hang out today while Dad was at work and C was at school.  Thanks so much to Kathy for bringing C home!  We did a little baking this afternoon and made an awesome applesauce cake, for which I had to make some fresh applesauce first--yum!  Dad said I could make it again any time. The littles thought beater-licking was the best, and wanted me to steal more and more from the bowl that C was licking clean.

(10/23)  We lost our dear sweet Shrek today to hemangiosarcoma.  He had been fainting for the last several days, so we had more x-rays done and unfortunately his heart was filled with tumors. Over the last week, he went from his normal puppy self to a geriatric dog. My heart is broken.  He was such a wonderful boy with the kids, and both the littles still yell "SHREK NO!" when they hear a dog barking.

Nanan came to watch the littles while I was with Shrek.  They were down for a nap when I returned and we visited/cried until it was time to go get C from school. We had a date to carve pumpkins at Granddad's this evening.  It was the perfect thing to take my mind off the heartache for a little bit.  We had a lovely evening, and the boys really got into their dessert.  Blueberry syrup FTW!

(10/24)  I had to remember how to work today after a week off.  Up and at 'em early, worked all day, and Dad had the kids. My car is done (hooray!), so I met the boys at the rental car agency and Dad returned our loaner, and then we picked up my car.  I ate dinner when I walked in the door and then pretty much had enough time to put the littles to bed. Sigh.

(10/25) Work day for Dad & me, and the kids went to Kathy's.  Early release for C today, and it was yucky out.  Yay for cooped up boys!  The littles took a 3.5 hour nap, which worked out perfect since dinner took a while to cook and they were up about 30 minutes past their normal bedtime.

(10/26) Hockey practice for C today.  I was Mom-of-the-Year and packed them snacks, the stroller, coats/shoes, etc in the diaper bag and then left without the diaper bag.  D was wearing a t-shirt and had no socks. And I took him down to the locker room like that.  Dad to the rescue brought the bag and I was able to suit them up to play.  After hockey, we came home to lunch and nap.  The boys napped late into the afternoon, so I let them stay up a little late while I did some baking.  I brilliantly forgot the baking soda and the butter in the pear-sauce bread, so it turned out to be a bit gelatinous.  The beaters were still good though!  I re-baked after the kids went to bed and got the beaters to myself.  Score!

(10/27) I woke up to loud twins and pouring rain.  Awesome.  C had a race this morning, and Granddad & Grandma joined us. I left the littles with Dad while we headed off to the race.  C did awesome, and it was dry for his race.  Granddad's & Grandma's race was soggy, but they did great too!  C and I checked out all the booths, and scored a toy for C, and a couple of granola bars.  It was a fun morning, but very chilly!  After we got back, I was ordered to give out "NACKS!" (snacks) aka lunch. The boys ate, and then went for down for a nap, which took them a good hour to settle in for.  They were yelling "MOM-MOM-MOMMY-DOWN-WEEEE-STOP!" etc.  But they did eventually sleep.  I may have crashed for a bit too, and I didn't even run today!  I woke up to sun and scooted out for an afternoon walk with Sarah.  Left the littles with Dad again and came home for dinner and play time with the twins.  Their vocabulary is increasing by leaps and bounds.  They are "counting" - or at least making the sounds for the appropriate numbers and clapping hooray when I reach 5 and 10.  I videoed J playing with the magnets and sort of singing along to the ABCs.  He wanted to watch himself no less than 50 times. They both love watching videos of themselves.  So cute!

(10/28) Monday-Monday. Here's to a better week.  It's conference week, so C has early dismissal every day.  Dad has the boys and I have work.
