Twinisms

Dad says it's time to transition to "twinisms!"

C: I smell a stink.
Me: Who's stinky?
D: STINKY!
J: *points at D*

D: STINKY!
*climbs up onto the changing table and lies down*

D: DON'T THROW
*throw*
D: DID IT!

D: DON'T THROW!
*slams into brother's head*  Ouch.

On trying chips and salsa:
D: WHOA!  BRRRRR!

J: Where go?  Where go?  *raises hands*
J takes the batteries out of the kids' laptop, turns them around, loses them, finds them and puts them back.

J: WHERE GO?  *sob*  WHERE GO? *sob*
Big drama at our house on Wednesday.  J chewed the end off the blue pacifier.  He still sleeps with one at night, but only the dark blue one.  I scrounged around and found a yellow one, two white ones and translucent blue one. He tried each one, took it out, sobbed "Where go?" and gave it back to me.  He finally fell asleep after about 4 hours of sobbing and searching for his pacifier.  He doesn't use one during nap, and it didn't matter that I had three of the same brand... it had to be blue.  And do they make dark blue pacifiers anymore?  No, no they don't.  I found a lighter all-blue one and a more teal-colored one.  Bought them both, and he tried the teal one, took it out and said, "Where go?" again, tried the other one and that was the one.  We gathered up the rest and put them away, and he put his new passy away for bedtime.  He seems to have a thing for blue, since he also won't let D play with any of the blue Thomas engines.  Good thing we have lots!

August 20th-26th

(8/20) Work day for me today, and Sarah had the kids since Kathy wasn't feeling well.  The boys played in the pool, filled it with sand and grass, and were pretty filthy by the time they came in.  Sarah put them in the bath and they hollered through the whole thing.  We figured out it was probably due to the water being on during the process, since they usually love the bath.  I brought pizza with me when I got off work and we dined together.  Yum!

(8/21) I caught a run with Sarah this morning and got home in time to breakfast with the boys.  After breakfast, we packed up and met Sarah & co at the park and played until lunchtime.  Nanan came over during the boys' nap and visited for a bit.  She left before a wholly unpopular dinner (none of the kids enjoyed it, anyway).  Ya win some, ya lose some.  I put away the twins' 18-month clothes and replaced with 2T tonight. My babies are getting so big. Sniff.

(8/22) Dad had the boys today while I worked.  He and Rob took them all out to investigate potential boondocking sites and they had a great time throwing rocks in the river and trying to run in.  They must've picked up a screw somewhere along the line though, and it completely shredded the tire once back on the freeway. After that ordeal, Dad said he was definitely in need of sushi out, so they met me at the restaurant.  The boys were very well behaved and had the neighboring table in stitches.  The people at the next table said the boys sounded like motorcycles revving up.  LOL!  The waitress also loves the twins and kept coming over to chat with them.  Fun night!

(8/23) Work day for Dad & me, and Kathy had the kids.  Dad dropped them early since he had a dentist appointment, and I picked them up early because my company had a suite at the Mariner's game tonight!  I got home, made the kids dinner, and snuck out the door when the grands arrived.  The game was pretty womp-womp (we lost), but I had a great time!

Granddad and Grandma had a fun evening.  C won at Monopoly (so glad Granddad played as I hate that game!) and Grandma got the boys to clean up their toys (we'll have to work on this) and commented on how many words they have.  D is now saying short sentences - "Don't throw!" "Hey! No bark! Good girl!" (Poor Shrek)  "No-no." "JJ awake. No nigh-nigh."  Are you sensing a theme yet?

(8/24) I needed to run an errand to the Sno-Isle Library, and packed the kids up to go to the one in Snohomish.  Only it's been so long since I've been there, that I didn't realize it had moved.  So I parked at the old location, got the kids out and discovered it's now a mercantile. Oops.  We wandered down First St and stopped in at the Snohomish Pie Company, and had some apple crumb while I figured out where the current location was.  We walked over, checked out some books and then hit the car right as it started to rain.  I got the kiddos home and the littles took a nap.  I fixed a messy dinner (applesauce followed by spaghetti), so it was bath night.  And when I said, "No poops in the bath!" I guess the twins took it as a challenge.  By the time I had washed the tub, towel, and rug, it was bedtime and I was more than ready to put them down!

(8/25) Nice day today.  The kids got to hang with Dad in the morning while I went running with Sarah.  They greeted me by screaming (happy screams!) and we had lunch together.  Dad & C left for the last camping trip before school starts. Sigh, I have a first grader now.

The littles stayed with me, and Nanan will be coming up to stay with them through tomorrow while I work.

(8/26) Off to work with me today.  Nanan is watching the kids until Dad & C get back from camping.

August 13th-19th

(8/13) I'm on vacation this week and we plan to do a whole lot of nothing.  We kicked today off with a trip to the park where C was finally convinced to give up the training wheels.  WAHOO!  There was a little girl there that bossed Jor & C around (read: gave them tips on how to ride).  But it made them both brave enough to give it a go.  This afternoon, C got out the crazy hose (squirts many directions) and the littles played in the pool and sampled some sand out back.

(8/14)  Ventured to Flowing Lake with Sarah & co today.  The boys had a blast!  They immediately sat down for snack and decided what Sarah brought was better than what I did.  Then we tromped around the big toy while the big boys played volleyball.  Once Sarah's friend arrived and deemed it lunchtime, it was decided that it was again time to eat. And again with the sharing of foods we both brought.  The hummus was a big hit, and the littles kept trying to grab their own handfuls.  Yummay.  After lunch, it was time to swim.  J threw lots of rocks and D, of course, went right into the water.  They played until exhaustion and then D headed for the towels yelling "BAAAYYYEEE" and waving. He fell onto the towels saying "NIGH-NIGH, NIGH-NIGH, NIGH-NIGH!"  They were so very done, and took epic naps when we got home. Jor came to spend the night this evening and everyone crashed hard after a fun day.

(8/15)  All was quiet when I returned from spin class this morning, and I made the boys waffles for breakfast and then let everyone play. C had a dentist appointment during the littles' nap, so we headed out to take care of that while Dad stayed behind.  I tried to keep the little guys up this evening so they could see Grandma & Granddad when they came to stay with the kids so we could go out to the comedy club.  D was a D-saster, complete with falling on the blanket, dramatically yelling "NIGH-NIGH!"  They made it, but didn't last very long after we left.

(8/16) C was tiiiired after being up a late the previous few nights, so I let him sleep and got up with the littles.  We had a nice breakfast together and a low-key morning.  Dad headed out for work, and I let the boys watch some TV so I could read my book.  I'm totally on-board with bribery. Bridger came over this afternoon to play, and despite all the arguing, I think the big boys had fun?  We played outside in the pool/sand box/sprinkler until dinner and then came in to play some more inside.

(8/17)  After Bridger was picked up, we packed up and went over to invade Sarah's house since it looked pretty gray outside and she bribed us with muffins. (See what I said about bribery?) We stayed through lunchtime and then headed home for nap.  C stayed behind to play with Jordan and I promised to return after nap to come collect him.  The littles were MAD when I didn't let them out of the car when we went to fetch C and hollered most of the way home. Yay for opinions!

(8/18) Dad made us a fancy breakfast, and then left for a fantasy football draft.  The kiddos and I decided to hang out at home for the morning.  I got out the weights, and C showed us all up by claiming the 10-lbers.  And the little boys kept running away with the others.  D was a crack-up, and really got in to the stretches and lifts.  After lunch and a nap, we headed out to run a few errands, and then once Dad returned, I left to go have dinner with my brothers and sister.  We had a great night!

(8/19) Back to work for me today, and the boys are with their dad.

Lots and lots of new words this week!
- ON ON ON!  (while turning on the fan, including plugging it in.  /Sigh)
- BAAAYYYEEEE!  (while running away)
- UP UP UP! (while climbing)
- Stinky (during diaper changes)
- Ewie - (when picking up something icky)
- LIGHT! (and accompanying tantrum when I don't turn the smoke alarm on)

Pretty sure I've heard "love you" and "Nay-nee" (what Jamie, Sarah's boy, calls himself) and even ME (used correctly!).

They are also climbing on top of their kitchen to get to the board game shelf, which is already 4' off the ground and can't get much higher.  D keeps climbing onto the couch, standing up and grabbing the remotes off the top of the china hutch.  Another high place that can't get any higher!  Too.dang.smart.

Twenty-two Months

(8/6) Work day for Mom & Dad, and the kids went to Kathy's.  C had a hard day and was complaining of head, back, and leg pain tonight.  I wonder if he's growing.  The littles were in good spirits though, and were full of raspberries and silliness throughout the evening.  They have been staying awake well past 9p (two hours after I put them down), cackling and blowing raspberries and talking about the light.  D says, "Light?" and expects it to turn on.  He also does this with the smoke detector and gets really mad when I don't beep it.  Goofy guy!

(8/7)  Today, I slept in, and boy did I need it.  I made a huge breakfast for the crew, but C didn't eat much, and Dad had already brushed his teeth, so he passed... I ended up freezing the rest of it and then getting ready for the day.  We went to the library and then to the park. C just wanted to sit in the shade and read his book, which was odd since it was only 73°. After we got home, he said he really was sick, and then proceeded to get sick all over the floor.  Sigh.  He took a nap when the littles did, and said he was feeling a bit better in the afternoon.  I let him watch some television while we went outside to play in the pool once the littles got up.  Came in and made dinner, but again he didn't eat much. The littles, on the other hand, were little piggies today.  The boys consumed half a big watermelon, 1 nectarine, 3 plums, and a peach.  And that was just the fruit they ate today.  D grabbed a peach after dinner tonight, took a bite and was about to put it back when I grabbed it.  I cut off of the spot he took a bite out of and proceeded to eat it when I saw him reaching for another piece.  He grabbed a plum and ran around the corner where I caught not just him, but his brother, with his own two plums chowing down. LOL!  We're so screwed when they can open the fridge.

(8/8) Work day for Mom & the boys were with Dad.  I checked C's temp before I left, and he was running a fever, so I gave him some ibuprofen and headed out to work.  Dad said C didn't have a fever all day and he was looking and feeling much better when I got home.  The big boys went back-to-school shopping after I got home and I got to hang with the littles before they went to bed.  Such happy little people.

(8/9) Work day for Dad & me, and Kathy had the kids this afternoon.  She said it was a MUCH better day.  Whew!  I got the boys home, and as I usually do, let them walk from the car up the stairs.  J tried to make a break for the back yard, and was mad that I intercepted him.  Then he tried to go down the stairs and out to the back yard, where I again stopped him.  Both boys laid on the floor screaming when I fastened the gate on the main floor after dragging them both upstairs.  J kept it up for over a half hour, while I cooked dinner, cut up strawberries, and even covered them with whip cream to try to entice him to come over.  No dice.  Little man kept it up until D was ready to go for J's strawberries and then he finally got in his chair.  I put them to bed shortly after dinner because they were both hot messes.

(8/10) Dad was in Uncle Spanky's wedding today (a long-time friend), and so we got fancied up to attend.  Nanan came to watch the boys, but needed to leave early so we ended up calling to see if Granddad and Grandma could take over for the evening.  They came, but we decided against going to the after party since it would put us out really late.  But since we had babysitting, we returned Dad's tux and went out to dinner all by ourselves.  Came home, put the boys to bed and watched a movie.  Great date night. Poor C had a return of whatever he had earlier this week and was feeling pretty poorly again today. He took a nap and turned in pretty early.  Hope he feels better soon.

(8/11) Today we slept in and got a slow start to the day.  After breakfast I got the rare opportunity to shop all by myself for my brother's baby shower this afternoon (I have a new nephew due on the boys' birthday).  I rode up with Granddad, Grandma, and Aunt Shannon and had a wonderful time! There were 11 week old twins there today.  I can't even remember the boys being that small.  Awww!

Dad got to hang with the kiddos at home while I was at the shower, and it sounds like they had a good night.  C was feeling much better today, as evidenced by his appetite returning. Yay?

The monkeys are twenty-two months today.  Time can slow down any time now.  The language is coming fast and furious now, and it is amazing what they understand.  They can follow simple instructions and are becoming quite independent (like the walking from the car thing - they just do it, climb the stairs, and go inside). Really neat to witness.

(8/12) One day work week for me this week.  Woot-woot!  I will be off with the kids for the rest of the week after today.
