Week Seven

J 11/25
(11/22) It's really gross out today. I'm glad I ran all my errands yesterday so we don't have to go out in it.  We're planning an exciting day of coloring and TV watching.

If you can't figure out how to get your own thumb in your
mouth... the next best thing is your brother's?
Lorayne paid us a visit and we got to chat for a while.  It's been a LONG time!  I think since C was small!

J 11/23
Babies are both grabbing things - blankets, sweatshirt strings, hair, etc.  Makes getting them dressed interesting when they're clutching onto their jammies for dear life.  They still don't have much control of what they've grabbed, or of their limbs, but we're getting there.

D 11/25; Yay for smiles!!
(11/23)  Busy day today!  Oma, Opa, Craig, & Shannon are in town, so we bundled up and went over to Granddad's to see everybody. Had a fun time passing around babies and got in some Uno Attack with Granddad before dinner.

D 11/25; I'm bummed this one is blurry!
(11/24) Happy Thanksgiving!  I am ever so thankful for this big ol' family of mine! The twins slept most of the day, which means they were awake right in time for dinner.    We took turns holding them and eating.

It was a lovely, family-filled day.  I packed the camera and never took it out of the diaper bag. Fail.  I'll have to see if I can scrounge up pictures from Opa.

YAWN!  11/25
(11/25) Happy Birthday, Granddad! ♥

Richard Denton (Opa) with Denton 11/24
I sure could have gone Black Friday shopping.  We had diaper fails times two in the middle of the night, and of course the boys woke completely up when I changed them.

Oma & Opa came and picked up C this morning to head out for a fun day in Seattle.  The twins and I spent a quiet morning at the house before heading over to Granddad's for one last visit before everyone heads home.  It was Friendsgiving, so the house was full and loud.  But the babies slept through everything happening around them.

Oma & Opa with twins 11/25
I blame the babies for my supremely bad Rummy playing.  I got my behind kicked!  I, at least, beat everyone at Uno a few times.  But I definitely cannot help C play Solitaire, hold/feed babies, eat dinner and play Rummy at the same time.  Well, I can... but it results in me winning like 3 out of the 15 games we played.

Boys 11/25; J on the left
(11/26)  Apple Cup Day!  We are going to clean the house and then head over to Sarah's today.  The twins were a little off their regular schedule today, so I was a little late waking up and getting out for a run, but it worked out and ended in coffee.

Got our Christmas tree today!  I managed with three kiddos in tow, and am now feeling like Super Mom.  Well, until I argued with C about *when* we're decorating.  But it was a nice moment.

Boys 11/25
(11/27) Decorated the tree today and hosted the gaming group + Nanan for turkey dinner, round two.   So good to see everyone! The babies slept through the decorating and most of the dinner, then they got passed around and cuddled.

(11/28) C is entertaining us with Christmas music this morning from his laptop.  We're listening to Camptown Races, Alouette, She'll Be Comin' Around the Mountain, etc. He says they're about when Spring comes.  Very Christmasy.

We're planning a lazy day around here.  Think I'll crack open a book while babies nap.

Weighed the boys today.  D is 7-7.5 lbs (scale was fluctuating) wearing a sleeper & diaper and J is 8 lbs wearing only a diaper.  Slow weight gain for D, but he eats just as often as his little brother.  They're both measuring 22" too.

J 11/25
Other notable differences - D is very smiley and was first with the social smile.  He often raises both eyebrows and wrinkles up his forehead.  Very expressive, that one.

J is roly-poly and can roll from side to side.  He immediately grabs whatever is within reach (usually my hair) when being picked-up and has great head control.  He's also the talker, down to making humming noises while eating.

Week Six

J 11/17
(11/15) BRRR!  I bundled up the boys and made a quick trip to the park this afternoon.  It was bright and sunny, but the whole park was in the shade.  It was also in the low 40s, so it was a rather brief trip.  I'm still amazed that it's comfy to be squished in the sling like that, but once again, the boys were zonked out within moments of putting them in there.  C spent the night at Jordan's again (thanks, Sarah!) and the little guys and I had a quiet evening of watching TV and sleeping.

Put up your dukes!  J 11/17
(11/16)  Winter is here.  It was slushing/hailing last night and rainy/gross today.  We visited my work peeps today to say hi. I miss them, but am loving my time here with the boys too.   We then went to Sarah's to retrieve C and have lunch.  The bigger boys treated us to a play and sang us songs (so cute!), and they played Uno Attack while I held the itty bits.  Nanan brought us dinner, held the littles and watched big brother while I ran out to a class.  We visited until Dad got home, and then watched a little TV before going to sleep.

Babies have mad skills.  Kiiiiiai!
(11/17) Today, I was totally spoiled.  Dad brought back pizza from a new place for lunch and then sushi for dinner! Yum! After Zumba, since the big boy was off spending the night at Nana's (thank you, Nana!), we got the TV to ourselves and had the opportunity to watch a couple of movies.  The little boys only made it through Captain America before we put them to bed.

D 11/17
(11/18) I spent a quiet day with the babies at home while the big boy was still at Nana's.  We were visited by Granddad in the afternoon, and after he left, we piled in the car to go celebrate Sarah's birthday. Happy Birthday, Sarah!  After we got home, I put everyone to bed including myself. Another wild and crazy Friday night at our house.

D is a thinker; 11/17
(11/19)  Aww, real smiles from D today!  Those gummy grins are so cute!  I'll have to see if I can get a picture.  He looked like the pic below when I pulled out the camera... LOL

D is done with pictures; 11/17
(11/20) Note to self: lifting babies is not the same as Body Pump. I'll be lucky if I can pick them up tomorrow.  I'm guessing I'm going to be a little on the sore side.

Babies weighing Dad down 11/21
I watched Willow with the Daikini babies this evening. They didn't have a lot to say about it.

C & J 11/20
(11/21)  Oh good, I can exercise again. (My 6 wk check was today.)

I can't believe the boys are six weeks old.  Time can slow down now!

Made you look!  D 11/17

One Month

(11/8)  We had a pretty lazy day today.  The little boys napped, the big boy watched some TV, and I got some cleaning done.  I love the stage of babyhood when you can run a vacuum in the same room and they remain zonked out. We went over to Sarah's in the afternoon and attempted to go for a walk, but didn't make it all that far. Since we were rapidly losing daylight, we turned around and I Starbucked by car. The little guys look so cute snugged in their sling though.  I'm amazed that it's comfortable, considering J was practically sitting on D's lap. They're usually out within seconds of putting them in there, regardless of who is sitting on who.  C stayed overnight with Jordan (thank you Sarah!), so the little boys and I caught up on some TV and had a pretty quiet evening.  I say pretty quiet, because I'm pretty sure I forgot to decaf my afternoon mocha. J was *awake* at midnight and was ready to be up for a while.  Oops!

C & J 11/10
(11/9) Everyone was needy/clingy/crabby tonight.  I aimed for an early bedtime for everyone and it just resulted in lots more fussiness and not sleeping.  Sigh.  Bedtime is so not my favorite time of the day.

J 11/10
(11/10) It's 9am and the babies are still peacefully sleeping and I've been awake since 7:30a.  Figures!

D 11/10
C refers to the babies individually as "that baby." And when asked which baby, he either replies with "I don't know" or guesses D.  He's right at least 50% of the time.

Bedtime went much better tonight.  It's definitely easier when Dad is home to help and to let me out of the house for an hour.

Bitter baby face, part 3
J 11/10
(11/11) One month old today.  Wow!

I weighed D today out of curiosity: 6.5lbs!  I ran out of clean newborn sleepers today, so put him in a 0-3 month one for 8-12lbs.  He's definitely long enough for it, though it's pretty baggy width-wise.  J is 7 lbs. 'Little' brother is a chow hound.  He must take after Mom.  Ahem.

Nanan & Betty stopped by today for a visit.  Betty bought the store out of diapers.  We should be set for, I don't know, a week. Thank you!!  C went to go play with Jordan, Nana and Sarah.  We were planning to hit the park, but the weather decided not to cooperate.

J 11/10
(11/12)  Bedtime went really smoothly last night.  The babies went down for the night at 9pm, were up to eat around midnight, again at 4am, and again when I got up at 8am.  Thankfully, they usually wake within 20mins to an hour of each other, eat, and then go right back to sleep. Works for me! I'm more or less asleep for the entire process anyway.

C made sure the babies had enough toys.
D 11/10
(11/13) Heh.  Just when I think I've got them figured out, someone decides to pull an all-nighter.  J was wide awake at 4am and wasn't interested in going back to sleep.  It's a coffee kind of day!

Today the twins were completely out of sync.  One was up and fighting sleep and the other was out, then switch. That and D is very much like an itty-bitty C.  5pm strikes and he must be held, which is fine til I need to do pretty much anything else.  Yay for slings!

All together now, "Awww!"
C & J 11/12
This is probably the last time the green sleeper will make an appearance. Sorry, Nanan!  I know it's a favorite, but I had to squish J in it this morning.  Sad!  But this also means we get to break into the 0-3 month clothes.

D on the left; 11/13
(11/14) It was a gorgeous, but cold day today!  I escaped for a quick run in the sunshine with Sarah while Dad watched all 3 boys.  They all survived without Mommy!  There may have been wine after everybody went down though.

Trying to share the same thumb; 11/13

Week Four

(11/1) Oh my gosh, how is it November already? And we're going on week four?  Really?

Both boys are starting to have longer awake periods, and are starting to coo a little bit.  Love it! I am also loving the cheeks and double chins that are starting to develop.  J's especially so.  J is solid ~ he has good head control and is really starting to chunk up.  D is still working the lean look, but I'm seeing the beginnings of a double chin!

We had the day to ourselves since big brother was off playing at Sarah & Jordan's.  We did a whole lot of nothing and it was glorious (thank you, Sarah!) Rob dropped by to visit in the evening to play paparazzi and provide some adult conversation.  Thanks for dinner too!  We'll be busting into that tonight!

J 11/6
(11/2) I picked up my photo order today and got pictures of the newbies up while they slept.  We ventured out to the library today.  Getting all 3 boys strapped in takes longer than the drive to the library itself.  The librarians were very cute though ~ they were hopeful that I had 'returns.'

Just for Rob, "Never mess with a Sicilian when death is on the line!"
J is starting to lose his hair up top; 11/1
(11/3) Today has been a day of sporadic non-napping.  I put the boys down and made a run to the vet's for kitty food, and came home to two wide-awake boys.  I tried putting them down again and went out for a run while C rode his bike.  The weather was just too perfect and I've been itching to get outside!  The run was great until the last mile when big brother decided to bike all the way back to the car and not stop once I was out of sight. Not quite the ease-back-into-training run I was looking for.

I managed to scarf down some lunch and then the boys were up again. Dad reports that they were up while we were gone too.  Sorry, Dad.

Smiley D 11/2
(11/4) The boys all slept late today and we didn't really get up and going til around 9a today.  The time change will probably screw that up, but it was nice while it lasted.

We visited Sarah today for lunch and Nana brought over red cups (Starbucks)!  The eggnog latte was delish!  (My fave!)

After lunch, Sarah and I chatted while the boys sawed logs.  They were awake for a few minutes during lunch and were out for the rest of the afternoon. I wonder what this means for sleeping tonight...

C got to go play at Nana's for the afternoon, which he adores.  Love it when he comes home all played-out.

Mad baby is mad.
D 11/4
(11/5) Nanan watched the boys again while I took big brother to hockey.  They were awake for a little bit after we got back and then took a nice, long nap.  I may have also taken advantage of a quiet house and crashed myself.  Thankfully big bro was engrossed in watching Tron yet again.

Hee, Auntie Bridgette and Uncle Mat sent the boys cute Thing 1 & 2 hats and booties. So funny!  Next time I get them out of jammies, I'll dress 'em up.

J on the left; 11/6
(11/6) We're guessing D's eyes will stay blue, and J's may swing brown. Though C's hair was as dark as J's at first and then he lost it, and it came back in blond.

Yay for lazy Sundays at home!  Gives me a chance to play mamarazzi!

Both boys were really fussy for naps today and at bedtime.  I think I'll hold off on eating broccoli again for a while.

(11/7) Happy Monday!  I think we'll get out to visit Granddad today while the big boys go skating.

Week Three

(10/25) Yeesh, J has been wanting to eat every hour and thus I've been chained to a bebe all day. Must be growing!  Good thing we only had exciting things like watching Tron for the five-billionth time followed by some Dora and Word World on the docket today.

Marc and his mom stopped by tonight to visit.  They brought us chili and bread for dinner (yummo!) and some cute, cute outfits for the littles!   They brought C a football too, but C keeps calling it a basketball, and is convinced it's time to go play outside, even though it's now dark.

Sleepy J
(10/26) Nanan babysat the little boys for a few hours while C and I escaped for some fun time at the museum.  Yay for getting out of the house!  It's so cold out that I don't feel very comfy taking the little boys out in it for long.

C & D
(10/27) Pediatrician visit:  J weighed in at 6lbs 2.3 oz (5%), and was 19.75" long (25%). D weighed 5lbs 13.8oz (5%) and was 20" long. J's up quite a bit from 7 days ago (5 lbs 9.6oz)!  D's only up about 3oz, but their Dr didn't seem too concerned.  Everything else checked out great again.  We go again when the boys hit two months.

We took the littles to visit the work peeps.  Hi, work peeps!  It was so good to see everyone. It's weird how it simultaneously feels like I've been gone forever and like it was just yesterday that I was waddlin' around all big and preggo-like.

Bitter baby face, part 2.  (J)
(10/28) Happy due date, boys!

Sarah, Jor, Jamie and Nana came for a visit today and brought lunch, Starbucks, and darling baby outfits and blankies, and a big brother shirt for C.  C left with them to go play at Nana's for a few hours. He missed Dawn and her boys when they stopped by, but her kiddos found his toys all the same.  Dawn, I hope you got your baby fix even if it was just one baby!

Pouty D
(10/29)  Nanan watched the little boys while C and I went to hockey.  The boys took their first bottles today with no issues. Yay!

(10/30) We had a quiet day at home today.  Dad watched the littles and made a feast for dinner while C and I went to Halloween with the Light On at Imagine.  J was still passed out where I had left him, and baby D was swingin' away.  Dad looked like he fared much better than I did. Big brother was really workin' on my last nerve.

J trying to eat big brother; 10/31
(10/31) Happy Halloween! The littles won't be making the rounds this year, but one of us will take Spider-man out for a little bit.

Daddy watched the little boys while I got out for a much-needed coffee walk with Sarah, and again while C and I visited Granddad and Grandma and trick-or-treated.  We raided Grandma's freezer and are well stocked with meals for the week. Thank you!!

Week Two

(10/18) Dad went back to work today.  His coworkers got him a joke clock that was set to go off every hour.  I suggest every two, since that's the kind of sleep we're operating on.  Sorry, honey!

First solo day went great.  Kathy kidnapped C for the afternoon, and the little boys and I got to hang out, sleep, and catch up on TiVo'd programs.

Burritos!  D on the left, J on the right
(10/19) Hey, look at that!  Instant human, just add sleep!  J slept six consecutive hours last night and D took a five hour morning nap.  I can definitely get used to sleep like this!

We ventured out to take C over to play with Jordan, and then ran errands that didn't require the little bits leaving the car.  The kiddos did some serious napping today.  I wonder how this bodes for tonight.

Bitter baby face (J)
(10/20) Oy.  Another brutal night of sleep.  I will be spending my day cat-napping and trying to be functional.

Pediatrician visit today.  J weighed in at 5lb 9.6oz - 0.6oz up from birth weight and D weighed in at 5lb 11.2 oz, 1.4oz down from birth weight.  It's funny because J feels heavier now than D, but D still weighs a tiny bit more.

The rest of the visit went well and we'll go back in another week for their two-week checkup.

The boys are down for a nap and I am coffee'd up.  Ahhh!

D
(10/21) And we have belly buttons!  Cute little outties!

Both boys have found their thumbs.  They can usually get the thumb in, but the rest of the their hand covers their faces.  I have yet to get a picture, but it's pretty funny.

Sarah kidnapped C again today so we spent the day sleeping / doing laundry.  Amazing how two small little guys can generate so much!

(10/22) I hesitate to say this, but I think we're on to something sleep-wise.  Two pretty good nights in a row - we're on a streak!

Granddad took C to hockey today, and the little boys and I took a long nap.  Then we watched napped through Tron with C once he got back.

(10/23) Carved pumpkins today!  J was impressed:

J

(10/24) Yep, I jinxed it.  It took them a good three hours to go to sleep last night.  Thankfully, Dad and I were both off today and could take full advantage of nap time!

D 10/24

Week One

Happy Birthday, D!
(10/13) What a blur these last few days have been.  It looks like we'll be discharged today after D's car seat monitor.

Both boys are sleeping on the end of the bed as I type this.  We got as much sleep as you can get when you're checked on virtually every hour.  The staff has been great, but I can't wait to be home!

Update from home:  Melissa came over, made us tuna casserole, and let us catch a few winks.  Nanan and C walked/biked to the park and entertained themselves, so we had a pretty quiet house all things considered.

Happy Birthday, J!
(10/14) It is wonderful to be home! The first night went really well and we all ended up sleeping until 9am. I'm sure that won't be the norm, but it was sooo needed.

We had a nice day visiting with friends that came over and generally just taking it easy.  Jay and Sarah B visited, made lunch, and played with C.  Then Sarah L came over with baby Jamie ~ it's hard to believe that there's the same age gap between C & Jor that there is between the babes and Jamie.  She also brought Sbux & brownies.  Mmm, recovery food!

(10/15)  Not so much sleeping was done last night.  Both boys decided they would rather be up eating all night instead.  We had their weight checks this morning and J is back at birth weight and D has gained 100g since leaving the hospital.  He's still at a 7% loss from birth weight, but with the amount of eating that was happening last night, I can't say I'm worried.

We have noted that J is a bit of a sprinkler ~ we've gone through lots of sleepers and cloth dipes to catch the sprays here at home. Brilliant Mom takes extra diapers and wipes to the check today.  Do I grab an extra sleeper?  'Course not!  Just when we thought it was safe to re-dress, he gets his outfit below him.  Poor baby boy had to ride home in just a dipe and a blanket.  Did I mention it was like 40° out?  Mom fail.

We came home after the appointment and I took a nap with the boys for a few hours and am feeling more human.   Dad took C to hockey and then came back and did the same thing.  I hope tonight goes better!

Granddad and Grandma have C for the night, and the twins and I are hanging out.  Well, they're sleeping, I'm blogging, and Dad is downstairs playing the Xbox.  They let us have a dinner break together and watch a little TV.  Kathy brought us some fab chili and cornbread.  We have such nice friends!

(10/16) Yay for a lazy Sunday!  C came back from Granddad's mid-morning and we all did a whole lot of nothing including some TV watching and napping.  The boys are sleeping in three hour chunks and I definitely think we've out-grown the preemie diapers.  Let's just say we've done A LOT of laundry!  Well, Dad has, anyway. I haven't done a whole lot other than give him more laundry to do.

C is off to Jordan's house for a sleep-over tonight, so it's just us and the little bits.

C REALLY wants to help/be involved with the babies and doesn't seem to understand that babies are pretty boring (to a 4 year old).  But he's adjusting.  I have a feeling evening/bedtime is going to get real interesting around here this week with Dad back at work.

(I0/17) Well, the routine needs tweaking, that's for sure.  Yesterday, they boys slept well allllll day until around 11pm and then were *awake* until 2am.  Yawn!  Once we got them down, they stayed down til 8:30a.

We ventured outside today to exchange the preemie diapers that Granddad and Grandma stocked us with, and hit Dad's work to meet his coworkers.  We'll hit mine soon too; promise, coworkers!

We'll endeavor to keep the little boys awake a little longer today in hope that they sleep better tonight.  Dad goes back to work tomorrow, so wish me luck!  Although, nanny Kathy will be kidnapping C for a while during the day, so that will be one less munchkin to juggle.

Thanks Rob for the pics!  They turned out so cute!
